Celebrating Success | ‘CAO Day’ Brings Joy to Castlecomer Community School in Kilkenny. In the wake of the exhilarating Leaving Cert Results Day, Castlecomer Community School in Kilkenny recently celebrated ‘CAO Day.’ The post-‘CAO Day’ survey conducted by the school’s guidance department sheds light on a noteworthy trend that has been on the rise in recent years. High Expectations Met

Anticipation ran high as more than a quarter of the students achieved scores exceeding 500 points, while an additional 30% scored above 440 points. So far, almost 90% of the Leaving Cert class of 2024 has responded to the survey.

First-Round Success

To date, an impressive 86% of the class of 2024 have received their first-round offers. Furthermore, 8% of students secured their desired apprenticeships, while 6% made the choice of either embarking on a gap year or entering the workforce.

Preferred Destinations

Among the favored choices for higher education, SETU emerges as the most popular destination, with 21% of students accepting places at the South-East’s new university. Additionally, DCU and UL stand out prominently, with 16% of students accepting offers at DCU and another 16% at UL. Other destinations include Trinity, UCD, Thurles, Sligo, and UCG.

Changing Paths and Aspirations

An emerging trend worth noting is the increasing number of students opting for a gap year between completing their Leaving Cert and commencing college. Additionally, a small but growing percentage of students are embracing apprenticeships, signifying the encouraging expansion of rewarding career pathways post-recession.

Proud Principal Perspective

Mr. Pat Murphy, the school’s Principal, expressed his delight with the progress of the Class of 2024. He noted the significant transformation since the school’s founding in the 1980s, with a remarkable shift from a 30% progression rate to a consistent 85% – 90% today. This transformation reflects not only societal changes but also serves as a tribute to the dedicated staff and hardworking students who continue to elevate the school’s legacy.
